PR pricing in India has historically been opaque on purpose — agencies want to segment clients and charge whatever they think you'll pay. Here's the actual market reality, broken down honestly.
TL;DR
- Mass-distribution-only (Tier C portals): ₹10K-₹15K. Use for first-time press, brand mention.
- Founder profile (Tier A inclusive): ₹40K-₹60K one-time, or ₹1.5L-₹3L/month retainer.
- Full bureau retainers: ₹2L-₹5L/month for serious sustained presence.
- Anyone charging ₹10L+/month should justify with very specific deliverables (international press, exotic placements, etc.).
The four price tiers in Indian PR
Tier 1 — Mass distribution (₹10K-₹15K): 200+ Tier C portals, wire-style. No editorial substance. Good for: search-result coverage, brand-name presence.
Tier 2 — Founder PR (₹40K-₹60K one-time): Includes 2-3 Tier A masthead placements, founder profile angle, photo direction. Good for: pre-fundraise, category authority building.
Tier 3 — Sustained retainer (₹1.5L-₹3L/month): Multi-publication monthly cadence, podcast guesting, Hindi inclusion, repurposing infrastructure. Good for: 6-12 month authority building.
Tier 4 — Full bureau (₹3L-₹5L+/month): Adds crisis-comms hotline, Wikipedia readiness, international press, full content production. Good for: established brands, public companies, public figures.
What inflates prices unnecessarily
Three things: (1) "strategy retainers" that produce zero deliverables — you're paying for slide decks. (2) bundled "social media management" at premium rates — usually automated. (3) "international press distribution" that's just a wire service repackaged.
What's a fair price?
Whatever produces the live URLs you need at the cadence you need. Published pricing is the simplest signal — agencies that publish prices have nothing to hide.
